Here is the problem with the "fair tax"...it is not fair at all. Paying a 20-30% sales tax is more of a burden the more poor you are. They say there would be exemptions but these checks would be doled out at the end of the each month. Poor people usually don't save money or budget. They live dollar to dollar. Many would see this check as a monthly windfall and blow it all at once. How about a tax exemption card? If you give a tax exempt card to the poor, it is basically a branding that says these people are poor. Unacceptable. The tax code needs fixing, but this is not the way to do it.
I am sorry, but if the Republicans are smart, they will nominate John McCain. Mike Huckabee will loose in a landslide even to Hillary.
I know the talking heads of conservative radio hate McCain, but the country is not happy with the Republicans right now and McCain is the only candidate that has a chance to win.
Personally, I believe the government should be FOR the people and BY the people. ALL PEOPLE. I get nervous when any candidate begins campaigning on their religious beliefs. This country has had a secular government from its inception. I would prefer to keep it that way. (My 2 cents)
Now, for the Democrats, they would be smart to nominate Barack Obama. Hillary Clinton would bring out the Republican base like no one else could. The "Wal-Mart" Republicans who usually don't vote would come out in mass to vote against Hillary. Independents and moderates (and even some moderate Republicans) like Obama and you can't win an election without the independents.
Now, in the interest of full disclosure, I am a registered NC democrat who supports Obama.
I would agree that a sales tax is not what we need. Nor checks at the end of the month for some to just blow. What is fare, will if you have to pay the same percent as I do, then you are paying your 10 percent worth just as every other person would. In a cense this means those that make more pay more. Yes and no. we are all just paying our 10 percent.
I enjoy seeing others on here reading and responding. By sharing thoughts and options we can grow and come together for the common good.
I’ll say this election sure has got the nations attention as it should have been every election year. Victoria smith
I hope that every one who is interested in North Carolina politics will visit and add to my page. This page is for smart and straight shooting poltical people who care about thier state and qulaity of life. This isnt meant to be a page where we fight among our selves and say awful things. It is meant for us to conversate and discuss topics of NC politics, but this doesnt mean we should'nt challenge or question others comments. I want to to thank you for visiting and helping make this a great page,I hope we can really make things happen and help our party get into control of our run-away government.
